Hey You Guys - Almost Done!

This weeks movie (90's) chosen for its microscopic camera technology and its insight, therefore, into lives unlike our own (and because you might not likely see it if I don't assign it): "Microcosmos". (1996)

ps.  The more of you that can do your final presentation this Thursday, the better.  Then you'll all have more time for extra credit that I'll assign at that point.

Justin and Ely.  If you guys could both bring to class Quicktimes you could get to each participant, that would be great!!  You don't need to edit further than that.
We'll talk about that installation project on Thursday too.  It would be perfect if we'd have time to pull that together this week, but it's doubtful.  We'll discuss.

Also, finally, everyone remember to remember to bring some recording device to class.
See you then, then.

Yours humbly,
LH

How would I describe "Microcosmos" in the most simplest term --- It's buggingly cool. I like it because we forget the these insects live the the mst simpliest lives with no help from technology, money, and what nots. Besides that they outnumber us big time (1000 to 1).

I just watched Microcosmos. I honestly thought it was going to be sort of an animated narrative. But really it felt more as if it were a filmmaker playing with a new macro lenses for his camera. I do like what little narration there was. How a world smaller than ours exists in the countryside. It is very true.

Also, you didn't tell us there would be snail porn in this! That was hilarious. I did like the pincher beetle fight though, up until the end of it. That was Terrodome, baby! Two beetles enter, one beetle leave. But it didn't end that way...

The rain scene was kind of cool. A little slow motion photography on the raindrops was a nice look. That water spider scene was creepy. Which kind of leads me into the one scene that is just gross to me. The final scene with the mosquito emerging from its larva state. It is just disgusting. Mosquitoes are just gross.

What great cinematography in Microcosmos. Loved watching all the different bugs in action. I once saw a program on the people who actually did the sound effects for this type of program, and it is just a couple of people with saran wrap, sand, shoes and miscellaneous items to make the sounds of bugs crunching and crawling. Fascinating stuff. Life in action.
